Western Australia - Parliament and MPs
Western Australia has two Houses of Parliament, the Legislative Assembly (57 Members) and the Legislative Council (36 Members).
In the Legislative Assembly, each voter has one representative.
For the Legislative Council, the State is divided into six regions. Each region has either five, six or seven members. Members of the Legislative Council are elected by proportional representation within each region for four year fixed terms. Thus each voter has five, six or seven members in the Legislative Council. The Liberal Party and National Party form the government.
The Premier is Colin Barnett.
