Muslims and multiculturalism

A recent news item highlights the tensions evident in our society between different worldviews and beliefs...

Over recent years the philosophy of multiculturalism has been heavily promoted. However, instead of encouraging new immigrants to accept and adopt Australian culture and values, multiculturalism has often fostered separate communities - with differing traditions and languages.

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal has granted an exemption from 'anti-discrimination laws' for a community event, to be held during Ramadan in 2011.

The exemption will REQUIRE attendees - both Muslim and non-Muslim - to wear clothing that covers them from neck to knee! The event will be held at a swimming pool and participants will be swimming!

That's so "Muslim sensitivities" aren't offended.

Read the media report at the Herald Sun.

Ironically the event will be held by the YMCA - traditionally a CHRISTIAN organisation!

We need to ask the question, 'What is happening in Australia?'
