Re-assessing political policies

Everything old is new again!

In recent days various policies of the Rudd federal government have been controversial with the electorate.

With the election of Julia Gillard as the new leader of the Labor Party, some of these policies will be back on the agenda!

Just two to start with - with comments made by Julia Gillard in her first press conference.

Climate Change- Julia Gillard has said that she will propose a 'price on carbon' or an 'Emissions Trading Scheme' in the term of the next parliament.
When Mr Rudd failed to get the bill passed after three attempts, he said the government would not consider it again until 2013.

Super profits tax - Mr Rudd had announced a 'super profits tax' on the mining industry. Although he initially said that was it and he would not change, he has been 'talking' to the mining companies in recent days.

Now Julia Gillard says that her government will not only "consult" with the mining companies but will "negotiate" with them. However, her deputy leader, Wayne Swan, as Treasurer, would seem to be closely connected with the original policy!

This was a major factor in recent unhappiness within the Labor party about Kevin Rudd's leadership.

What will they do about the problems in the insulation program, the rorts in the Bulding the Education Revolution or the problems in implementing the National Broadband project or ...?

Only time will tell!
