Movies

Popular culture - movies, books, music - has an influence on us and our opinions and worldview. The visual and verbal messages in films seep into our minds, often without us realising it.

As Christians we must be very discerning about what we watch and read. It is vital that parents are discerning when it comes to what they allow their children to read, to watch and what games they play. We can't RELY on classification guidelines - for instance,in the MA15+ category, children under 15 can see those films with a parent. However, much of the material in the MA15+ category isn't suitable for anyone, let alone children!

We need to ask if the worldview being promoted in the film is consistent with Biblical principles.

Or does it promote another worldview - such as humanism or Buddhism or the occult?

The Bible tells us to watch out for deceptive philosophies (Colossians 2:8) and to be 'in the world but not of it'.

This 'Movies' page on our website analyses particular films as to their compatibility with Christianity.

The BOTTOM tab lists a number of very helpful websites that analyse popular films - they describe the plot of recent films, analyse the amount of sex, violence etc and some sites give the film a 'rating'.

BEFORE you see that next movie, use one or more of these websites to find out what the film is REALLY about!
