Catch the Fire Ministries, Daniel Scot and Danny Nalliah

Location: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Court-of-Appeal-06-01small-787302When Daniel Scot (from Queensland) presented a seminar on Islam in Melbourne in March 2002, organised by Catch the Fire Ministries, just months after 9/11, he didn't expect to spend the next FIVE years fighting against a vilification charge!

Three Muslim converts each came to part of the seminar and then lodged a complaint of religious vilification along with the Islamic Council of Victoria. The complaint went to the Equal Opportunity Commission, then to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT).

When the judge, Michael Higgins, handed down a decision against the two pastors, Danny and Daniel appealed. The Supreme Court (Court of Appeal) overturned the original decision in December 2006 but sent the case back to VCAT!

In June 2007 the case was finally settled at mediation and the complaint was withdrawn.
