Free Speech
Freedom of speech is under attack around the world.
Legislation increasingly makes it difficult to speak freely... anti-discrimination and hate speech laws are being implemented in many countries - from Canada to Sweden as well as right here in Australia...
Since 1994 we we have documented and reported on freedom of speech issues, particularly in our monthly journal and our E-News.
In this section of the website, we'll document some of those cases and link to groups that monitor freedom of speech ... and add to it as more incidents occur and time permits.
The most high-profile case in Australia is the one involving Daniel Scot, Danny Nalliah and Catch the Fire Ministries. When they ran a seminar on Islam in 2002, the Islamic Council of Victoria and three Muslims made a complaint against them under Victoria's Racial and Religious Tolerance Act.
Five years later, in June 2007, the case was finally resolved.
We have documented this case fully on our News pages under the heading 'VCAT - two Dannies'. Click here to read more about this important case.
Victoria's Racial and Religious Tolerance Act, and similar legislation, is dealt with in a separate Issues section: click here for the section Racial and Religious Tolerance Legislation.
Mark Steyn and Geert Wilders have been taken to court for statements they have made about Islam.
Mark Steyn is a writer and commentator - whilst Geert Wilders is a Dutch politician.
