Melbourne's homosexual 'midsumma' festival is held from 18 Jan to 9 Feb

A range of events are held, including 'pride march', a carnival, various art
events and parties.
Over the past few years, we have monitored the numbers attending the events
as well as the sponsors of midsumma and the MPs and Councils who offer their
support.

Following our campaigns over recent years, we were pleased to see that the
media did not give crowd figures for this year's midsumma 'pride march' held on
Sunday 2 Feb at 5 pm!
In fact, most media TOTALLY IGNORED the pride
march!
The ABC didn't mention the midsumma pride march. Only Channel 10 mentioned
the march - they said 'tens of thousands' but didn't commit themselves to a
figure.
The Papers : The Herald Sun didn't say anything and The Age
had one photo towards the back - showing two people in a virtually empty park
and NO mention was made of the crowd size!
We estimated that the crowd was less than 10,000 people - there appeared to
be less than last year. (... last year the organisers said there were 50,000 +
spectators!)
