Summary
Civil Government The State, politics and government are all a 'fact
of life' today. In this feature article Murray Adamthwaite examines the

government has decided to proceed with a second round of laws to give more
rights to homosexuals. These include adoption rights, vilification laws and the

Governor-General, Peter Hollingworth has become a subject of many constant media
reports. The release of a report by the Anglican Church in Brisbane about the
handling of sexual abuse cases whilst Peter Hollingworth was Archbishop of
Brisbane has brought these matters to the surface.

Few tears over resignation of NSW Anti-Discrimination
president Chris Puplick has resigned as the NSW Anti-Discrimination
president because of accusations of helping a homosexual friend with a case of
discrimination against an employer. Puplick has been active on the AIDS Trust
and assisting with the recovery of ‘Mardi gras’.

NZ Families Commission NZ Government is establishing a
Families Commission. This will cover all types of family – not just those
associated with a formal marriage relationship.
Good News on Adult Stem cell research New research shows
that baby teeth can be a rich source of stem cells; adult stem cells have been
used to create brain cells.
Is the UN becoming irrelevant?
The UN is becoming increasingly distant from Christianity. The new Chair of
the Commission on Human Rights is Libya. The latest meeting of this group
discussed the implementation of rights based on ‘sexual orientation’ or
homosexuality. The vote has been deferred until next year.
Victoria allows embryo stem cell research The Victorian
government has voted to allow research on embryos.
Jailed for protesting abortion in Australia A Queensland
man has been placed on remand until his court hearing in July. He was arrested
while sitting in a doorway at an abortion clinic. One of the bail conditions was
that he not return to the site; when he refused to sign that he was placed on
remand.
Prostitution Update WA debates prostitution law; A WA
group, called Phoenix, that assists sex workers is training them how to
‘service’ clients. The 'Daily Planet' brothel in Victoria has just been
listed on the stock exchange.
