28 August 2001 - WA increases homosexual
rights
The WA government is set to introduce new laws into Parliament next week
that will give property rights to WA cannot apply to the Family Court for
resolution of property matters - they must apply to the Supreme Court (This is
the only State in Australia where this is the case).
The Labor Government plans to introduce legislation that includes a
2-year living-together condition. The most concerning aspect of the legislation is
that it will recognise same-sex relationships.
This is the first of a whole range of proposed changes to the laws relating
to same-sex couples in WA - the proposals include full recognition of
relationships, vilification, IVF, adoption and reducing the age of consent to
16.
