Tasmania's social reform agenda

Tasmania's Labor Premier Lara Giddings is planning to push a raft of immoral legislation in the coming months.

Over the weekend, she said she will support same-sex 'marriage' in Tasmania if the federal Marriage Actis not altered to allow homosexuals to 'marry'. The Tasmanian Labor conference has just voted to support same-sex 'marriage' in Tasmania. Lara Giddings said she planned to introduce legislation before the end of the year and claims it will be 'legal'.

Of course, Tasmania was the first state to have a 'relationship register' - but that isn't enough for the homosexual activists - they want full 'equality'!

Earlier this year Lara Giddings announced that she would support legislation to allow euthanasia in Tasmania. A Discussion Paper on the issue is expected to be released soon.

Then there are her plans to liberalise morality laws on prostitution, surrogacy, abortion and more.
It was all spelt out in her speech.

None of this is a surprise - for two reasons. . .

First - Lara Giddings is a member of EMILY's List, the Labor group that is pro-abortion and more. We knew she supported some of these causes long before she became Premier in January 2011. In 2010, whilst Attorney General, Giddings spoke about her reform agenda (media release).
Second - the Tasmanian Labor Party is in a 'coalition government' with the Greens, and Greens leader Nick McKim is pushing all of these things too!

One commentator wrote in The Australian, "Such is Lara Giddings's desperation - with Labor languishing at 23 per cent in the polls, the same level as its power-sharing partners, the Greens - that one social reform was not enough. Gay marriage was joined by a veritable social activist's shopping list." He noted, "There was an apology for victims of forced adoption; there were laws to allow gay couples to adopt, laws for surrogacy and voluntary euthanasia; reform to prostitution and abortion laws, and Aboriginal land handbacks."

He suggested that the Premier was reaching for the 'social reform' agenda because the government wanted to divert attention from the polls and the faltering economy of the state!
