SA considers IVF for lesbiansThe SA Parliament's House of Assembly will soon vote on a Bill that would legalise IVF for lesbians and single women - we wrote about this on 3 May - click here. Last week (17 May), Mr Hamilton-Smith (Lib), the Opposition Shadow Minister for Health, moved for the debate to be adjourned as he had not received any briefings on the Bill. In his speech he expressed concern that this was part of an overall push to grant same-sex 'marriage' and all the associated 'rights'. Of course, we know that isn't the case - we are concerned. BUT we MUST contact the MPs to let them know that we oppose this Bill. The debate has now been adjourned - but not for long! It is vital that MPs in the SA House of Assembly receive letters asking them to vote against this Bill. The Bill is being promoted by openly homosexual Labor MP, Ian Hunter. Last year he proposed a similar Bill which specifically mentioned lesbians and single women. His current version of the Bill mentions 'Equality of Access' instead. The SA Legislative Council voted in favour of the Bill by 12 votes to 9 in early May. The Bill is now at the House of Assembly. Read media report. In December the Labor Premier, Jay Weatherill, said he would support the Bill. The media report above said that the Attorney-General John Rau, and Health Minister John Hill, had previously said they would not support IVF or adoption for same-sex couples. HOWEVER, Mr Hill has moved this Bill in the House of Assembly - and now says he supports IVF for lesbians - click here - for his speech. ACTION: If you live in SA, please contact your MP in the House of Assembly NOW - ask them to vote against the Bill. |
