SALT SHAKERS is dedicated to helping Christians understand the times (1 Chronicles 12: 32) and equipping them to be SALT and LIGHT in the community (Matthew 5: 13-16) by upholding Biblical values and by being more aware of the ethical issues affecting today’s society.
SALT SHAKERS was started by Peter and Jenny Stokes at Crossway Baptist Church in October 1994 following a three-year campaign to stop poker machines being placed in shopping centres. It rapidly grew into an independent, trans-denominational ministry reaching across Australia and overseas. A wide range of issues are covered. It is incorporated as a non-profit organisation.
SALT SHAKERS is guided by a Board, which includes people from a number of Christian denominations.
A Reference Panel was established in 2006 comprising various people who advise in their area of expertise.
Resistance Thinking
In 2007 we launched Resistance Thinking to help young people understand the Biblical Christian worldview and engage effectively in discussion about the issues of our day. Cameron Spink is the co-ordinator of Resistance Thinking.
Resistance Thinking provides Articles, regular emails, video, podcasts .... Visit the Resistance Thinking website.
Activities
SALT SHAKERS E-News emails are sent out about current matters. From the end of 2012, when we ceased printing a monthly Journal, we have posted out a monthly 'Prayer Update' to those without email.
The E-News now includes a 'Weekly Update' on a wide range of topics - it includes News, Articles, Ongoing Campaigns and so on. Click here to sign up to the E-News service.
We also have smaller email lists on Islam and 'Global Warming' (from a realist perspective).
We are committed to helping individual Christians, Fellowships, Churches, Home groups, Bible Colleges and Christian Schools to be more involved in speaking out on ethics issues such as gambling, drugs, abortion, euthanasia and homosexuality.
We can :
- Provide speakers and resource material
- Help you inform your church about what is happening in the community.
- Run seminars and workshops on the issues or on Worldviews.
- Speak at your church service.
